Luke Handlon

I am Luke H and I have been working on producing music for a year and a half at IUPUI with many more years of hard work ahead of me. Music to me is something that can be extremely impactful, oftentimes being more emotionally charged than TV shows and movies. I believe that regardless of the purpose the song was created, it carries some form of weight to the audience that can be interpreted in many different ways. A result of my time learning at IUPUI has been my increased interest in what a producer/artist was wanting to express to the listener or if a song was meant to carry any meaning at all. One of the challenges I see myself facing now and in the future is figuring out how to convey a certain emotion or
feeling to a listener who may or may not be passionate about music. I wish to be able to create music that forces people to pay attention to the details of the song and feel the impact of what I want to convey, regardless of whether said listener is aware of why they do or don’t like it.

I am an artist that appreciates and creates songs heavily centered around the use of samples to allow older sounds to be repurposed to create interesting effects in my music. Without having released more than two songs on my sound cloud, it is difficult to tell from the outside what my passions or inspirations towards music are but I have a theme of taking whatever sounds interesting to me and making a track surrounded by that sample. My interest in producing stems from playing the cello in orchestras and asking myself the question, “How do I go further?”. Orchestral pieces may be my introduction to live performance but I am deeply inspired by artists in hip hop and rap like Kanye West and MF Doom and their ability for story telling and producing. A goal of mine that I hope to achieve someday is to create a sound/style of music that can be likened to the two artists but stand on its own.
